How to Find The Right Fitness Center

The best way to determine which local fitness center is best for you is to visit the facility.  Calling facilities and asking for prices without visiting the centers is like comparing apples to oranges.  You must first see for yourself what you are getting for your monthly dues.

Step 1: Call the facility to arrange a tour.

If you just drop in and expect a tour, many times the instructors are performing orientations, teaching classes, or meeting one on one with existing members.  In order to get 100% of an instructor’s time and attention, call to arrange a tour.  There’s absolutely no obligation.

Step 2: Arrange a trial membership.

Once you’ve seen the facility and all that it encompasses, arrange a time when you can come in and try out the equipment under an instructor’s supervision.  This gives you a chance to see how your body responds to the equipment, meet the other members, and get to know the instructor.  It also gives you a feel of what it would be like to be a regular member.

You will first be interviewed by an instructor that reviews your medical condition to determine what you can and cannot do.  This is important so you will not harm yourself in any way.  Safety is our number one concern. The instructor will setup a basic exercise routine for you to safely try the equipment and give you an idea of what you will be doing on a regular basis.

Step 3: Become a member.

Time for thinking about exercising and getting in shape are over.  It’s time to make a commitment!  If the facility feels right and the price is reasonable, make the commitment.  If you don’t commit to getting in shape, getting healthy will only be a dream and never become reality.

Once you sign the membership agreement you will be assigned a card key which will allow you access to the club from then on.

Next, the instructor will weigh you and calculate your body fat percentage and Body Mass Index (BMI).   This is used to determine your physical conditioning and to allow the instructor to set realistic goals for you.   The instructor will setup another time for you to come in and continue the instruction until you feel comfortable working on your own.

Step 4: Exercise Regularly.

We recommend that new members have a day of rest between exercise days.  This allows your muscles to build and repair themselves more quickly.  Three times a week is a good goal.  It’s important to schedule your exercise days into your busy calendar so you won’t miss any days.  Setting up a regular routine is the secret to getting and staying healthy.

Step 5: Tell your friends.

Once you start exercising, losing weight, and feeling stronger, tell your friends about it.  Invite them to join you on your path to health.  It makes exercising fun to work out with a buddy.  This way you can encourage each other and challenge each other.

Step 6: Make exercising a lifelong routine.

Now that you are in shape and enjoying all the benefits that go along with it, never stop.
